The world’s best Pinot Gris has been grown and made in the Alsace region of France for centuries, and its Italian incarnation, Pinot Grigio, most prominently in Lombardy and Alto Adige. Australians have only recently begun to catch on to the delicious possibilities that this variety offers! It has deservedly become the new buzz variety- when you get a good Pinot Gris, it can be great! The variety is limited to small plantings throughout the country and its home in Australia can be said to be the Mornington Peninsula, where the trailblazers at vineyards such as T’Gallant have made sure that Pinot Gris will not go unnoticed. And so of course, we endeavoured to get a Pinot Gris from this fantastic region, and succeeded…Ours is a lovely dry white with pear and floral characters, very food friendly and great for those who are sick of Sauvignon and don’t want Chardy! It has none of the oiliness sometimes present in the variety, instead finishing incredibly crisply and cleanly.
